Unity is a Choice — Chaos is a Choice: Make Your Choice

Life constantly presents us with choices. Some decisions are minor and seem insignificant, while others have lasting consequences. One of the most profound daily choices is choosing unity or chaos.

When I discuss unity or chaos, I’m not referring only to marriage. It includes our internal thoughts, how we treat our children, how we interact with our coworkers, and how we handle situations at church.

Unity or Chaos has always been and will always be an issue, and we must develop ways to handle it effectively and Godly.

By choosing unity, we embrace a life that aligns with God’s design and purpose. It demonstrates to us and the world that doing what is right is always right.

The Case for Unity

God desires unity for His people. Jesus Himself prayed for unity in John 17:21, saying, “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.” Unity isn’t just a suggestion—it’s part of God’s plan for us to experience His fullness and share His love with the world.

Jesus prayed this prayer because he understood that internal and external forces would always seek to divide us. Our basic inclination is to live in chaos and neglect unity, even when it would benefit us.

However, when we choose unity, we reflect God’s character. We foster peace, strengthen relationships, and create environments where love can flourish.

By choosing to walk in unity, we become living reflections of God's love. We cultivate peace in a world desperate for calm, build relationships that weather life's storms, and create nurturing environments in our hearts, homes, and workplaces.

In unity, we become instruments of hope, radiating the divine beauty of God’s character to all those around us.

Unity allows our heart, mind, and soul to process as they should, to our good and God’s glory. It removes internal strife, external bitterness, and what I call "chronic complaining."

The Slippery Slope of Chaos

Chaos, by contrast, is often the result of pride, selfishness, or fear. It emerges when we prioritize our own desires over the well-being of others, refuse to listen, or cling to unforgiveness. James 3:16 warns, "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."

Chaos may seem justified when anger surges or frustration clouds our judgment, providing a fleeting sense of release. Yet beneath that surface lies a destructive force that fractures relationships puts turmoil on speed dial, and steals joy. Like an unchecked wildfire, it spreads swiftly, leaving division, stress, and brokenness in its wake. It can infiltrate our hearts and homes, turning spaces designed for love and peace into battlegrounds of conflict. However, God calls us to rise above these temptations to extinguish the sparks of chaos with love, grace, and the pursuit of harmony. We can only guard our hearts and nurture homes filled with hope and restoration by choosing peace.

Chaos appears when we lack a clear vision of others, our future, or both. Many people become frustrated when they dislike what they see or hear, which, if left unchecked, can result in chaotic actions and thoughts.

Making the Right Choice

How do we intentionally choose unity over chaos? It starts with small but meaningful steps:
1. Guard Your Heart and Mind
Philippians 4:8 urges us to focus on what is true, noble, right, and pure. What we allow into our hearts and minds affects how we respond to others. Surround yourself with God’s truth and positive influences.
2. Seek Peace Through Humility
Ephesians 4:2-3 encourages us to "be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." Humility breaks down walls of pride and opens the door to reconciliation.
3. Let Go of the Offense!
Unresolved offenses fuel chaos. Forgiveness is a powerful tool for restoring unity. As Colossians 3:13 says, "Forgive as the Lord forgave you."
4. Pray for Unity
Ask God to help you choose unity in your relationships and circumstances. Prayer invites God’s peace and wisdom into every situation.

Final Thought: Your Choice Matters

Unity or chaos—it’s a choice we all face. Choosing unity doesn’t mean there won’t be challenges, but it ensures that love, peace, and hope prevail. Chaos may offer a temporary release, but it ultimately leads to pain and regret.

So today, and every day, make your choice wisely. Choose unity, reflect God’s love, and watch peace transform your heart and relationships.
